... is founder of 'Oceaan Meditatie Centrum'.
Carel has a background in IT and (screen) writing. Between 1995 and 2010 he ran his own software company Sevensteps and worked for customers like Microsoft, SAP and Rabobank. In 2010 he decided to leave the business world and focus on film, photography and meditation. In 2016 he became a certified mindfulness trainer in the 'tradition' of Jon Kabat-Zinn.
Since 2005 he meditates intensively in a Tibetan buddhist tradition. He spends much time in the Irish retreat centre Dzogchen Beara, studying and guiding meditations. He works as an instructor at Rigpa in Groningen. He studied mindfulness (mbsr) at the 'Instituut voor Mindfulness', headed by Johan Tinge.
"Meditation and mindfulness are still regarded somewhat 'soft'. I'd like Oceaan Meditatie Centrum to help clear away this prejudice and make the valuable skills and knowledge available to as many people as possible.
Why did I take up meditation and mindfulness? Well, I had all a modern man could hope for: success in business, rich social life, holidays, etc, but still I did not feel content. I was stressed and felt restless. Something was lacking.
By taking on meditation I quieted down, re-established connection with myself, after which I could make some life-changing decisions.
I very much enjoy guiding the mbsr-groups. there is so much wisdom in mbsr, so much benefit comes from it. To me mbsr has become a very natural and fullfilling way of sharing my experience, helping others to find more ground and stability."
